Feng Shui
Feng Shui, which translates literally as “wind-water” is an ancient art that teaches us how to arrange furniture, belongings, and other parts of our home to enjoy better health, prosperity, comfort, and a higher quality of life overall. The idea of arranging objects and getting such dramatic results may seem a little unusual at first. However, most people have had at least one experience of entering a room and feeling instantly welcome and comfortable. Similarly, you may have had the opposite experience of walking into an unpleasant environment and feeling instantly at unease.
Feng Shui is based on techniques which have been proven for centuries. The basic concept of Feng Shui is to encourage good ch’i which can be understood as flow of positive energy. In Feng Shui, a good flow of energy is considered to bring good relationships, overall harmony, material abundance, health, and happiness. In addition, homes and rooms that have been arranged according to Feng Shui principles are generally very attractive and organized, thus attracting positive outcomes in life. Feng Shui can be applied to every space you inhabit; From individual rooms and homes, to office spaces and entire buildings and properties.
After centuries of studying nature, Chinese scholars discovered patterns of life, which can be seen and understood in an octagonal wheel called the Bagua. The Bagua consists of 9 sections: Career and Self-Purpose, Self-Knowledge and Spirituality, Family and History, Wealth and Opportunity, Fame and Reputation, Marriage and Relationships, Children and Creativity, Travel and Helpful People, and Health and Well-Being; 5 elements: Water, Wood, Fire, Metal, and Earth; and 9 colors: Black, Blue, Green, Purple, Red, Pink, White, Gray, and Yellow. To align with the forces of the universe, the Bagua must align with the space by the mouth of the chi, which is, most commonly, the entry door.
Feng Shui symbols are visual reminders of the positive changes you wish to experience; The power they have comes from how you feel about them. If you have financial concerns and decide to place a wealth symbol somewhere in your home, it’s important to do so with a positive outlook. If you believe the intended outcome with confidence, your confident expectation helps fuel the success of the Feng Shui remedy.
Many elements of Feng Shui are imminently practical. For example, Feng Shui dictates that clutter, broken items and withered or dying plants are always negative and stagnant. This is simply practical, as these items invariably take away from your enjoyment of living. Hanging on to old clothing, books, or appliances that are never used, tend to stagnate any area of life that they correspond to in your environment.
Whether you think that Feng Shui would change your life or not, it is hard to argue with hundreds of years of tradition and millions of devoted fans. Today, millions of people use the principles of Feng Shui to make their homes and workplaces more comfortable, productive and positive.
